There are oodles of trails to choose from, with beautiful landscapes to explore in San Diego. Start with Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve. Poke around and find exhilarating cliffs, deep pine forests, beach walks, and a bit of animal life, if you’re lucky. Nature is calling.
The true SoCal adventure is on the sand or along coastal Highway 101 by bike. Cape Rey offers complimentary bikes that are the perfect companion to your getaway. Pick up gourmet bites from Chandler’s or snacks in the giftshop, the perfect stowaway in your bike basket. Check out the nifty trail maps and other local excursion ideas.
Our favorite is the Lagoon trail, which follows the protected waters of the nearby Bataquitos lagoon, spilling out to sea. Beautiful birds frequently appear including egrets and herons. Piles of shellfish buried and exposed in the hills reveal ancient rubbish heaps of native peoples, now forming an elevated residential area, with wild space gifted to the Bataquitos Lagoon Foundation. A visitor’s center is open most mornings. No bikes. Gorgeous hike or run, about 2.13 miles each way. Multiple access points.
Horseback riding is a-plenty around here. Whether you want to trot along the shore, ride through wineries of Temecula, or hone your horse riding skills in Escondido, our Concierge is ready to set you up.
Wrap yourself in more furry fun at Zoomar’s Petting Zoo. In fact, whether you drive or take the coaster, you’ll love a leisurely day in San Juan Capistrano, with its quaint boutiques and rugged (but delicious) restaurants. Definitely take your camera.
