With over 4,000 animals, the San Diego Zoo is one of the largest and most popular zoos in the entire world. Its 800 unique species are arranged in habitats of different climatic zones along with an expansive free-flight aviary and arboretum with a collection of rare plants.
The San Diego Zoo is also one of the few places to house the endangered Giant Panda.
Formerly known as the San Diego Wild Animal Park, the Safari Park was first built as an extension of the San Diego Zoo. Now housing over 3,500 animals, the Safari Park features open-range enclosures and habitats in a more spacious design than the San Diego Zoo downtown, including the African Woods and Nairobi Village pavilions.
